FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABC & SkillsUSA working together to ensure Nevada has a skilled work force.

RENO, NV – April 29 - May 1, 2009 – Associated Builders & Contractors Sierra Nevada Chapter (ABC), the largest construction association devoted to the merit shop contractor  was the proud sponsor of the TeamWorks event at the State SkillsUSA Championship April 29 – May 1, 2009 at the Reno Events Center.  The competition was a huge success with Four teams of (4) Nevada high schools competing in the two-day contest.  The students had to develop and present a team action plan to a panel of judges on the first day and build the assigned project on the second day.  The competition evaluated each contestant’s preparation for employment/further education and to recognize outstanding skill in the areas of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity and teamwork skills.  The state winners will go on to compete at the 45th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City June 21-June 26, 2009.

ABC would like to acknowledge the sponsors that made the TeamWorks event possible: Action Electric; Baslite; Burton Components, Inc.; D & D Plumbing; Lowes; McMurtry Masonry; Platt Electric; Q & D Construction and United Construction Company.

The Sierra Nevada Chapter of ABC was so excited to be able to host an event where Nevada’s youth could showcase their talents and let the industry know that there is hope in the SkillsUSA is a national organization serving more than 240,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations.
