ABC’s safety programs and products help members maintain safer and more productive jobsites, one of the construction industry’s most critical needs. In addition to training resources, ABC provides members a safety evaluation program, which is supported by a partnership with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process(STEP) program was designed to help contractors establish an organized approach for developing a company’s safety and loss-prevention program. STEP includes objective methods to measure safety program improvements. In addition to fostering a safer work environment, ABC’s STEP recognition can be used as an important business development tool with clients. Members may submit a STEP application anytime during the year.

OSHA awards special privileges to ABC members that achieve ABC STEP Platinum safety status. In the agreement,OSHA acknowledges the safety programs, policies and procedures of ABC STEP Platinum members and removes them from OSHA-programmed inspections.
ABC’s annual safety awards program is a nationwide competition that honors construction companies with outstanding safety programs and exemplary safety performance records. Companies that achieve STEP Platinum status are eligible to compete for top honors in 21 categories.
The ABC Safety Conference offers seminars on a number of safety-specific topics, as well as opportunities to network with other safety professionals. This annual conference, which is held in conjunction with ABC’s National Education Conferences, is designed for safety professionals who work with construction companies or educational organizations.
ABC offers a variety of products focused on helping contractors improve jobsite safety. These resources, some available in both Spanish and English, can be ordered online through ABC’s website, www.abc.org/shopabc, or by calling the national office. Safety Training Classes ABC’s chapters offer many safety training classes at the local level that satisfy OSHA compliance requirements and increase employee safety awareness. These classes cover a wide range of safety-related topics and include OSHA-approved courses.
